This website is dedicated to the memory of the two women who introduced me to 
genealogy in the early 1970's: my grandmother Alice Clyde Brackin 
Whigham and her niece Mary Alice Thompson Grubbs who showed me my 
first family group sheets and census reports. Without the benefit of the 
Internet, Mary Alice compiled a vast amount of information the old-fashioned 
way.

I certainly cannot take credit for all the research reflected here.  I've had 
help from close as well as distant relatives.  This website, as you see it, 
would not have been possible without the contributions of Betty Nichols 
Spann, Lloyd Helms, Linda English-Holland, Linda Helms 
Stringer, Patricia Knight-Pugh, Linda Kaye Cole Lanier, and 
many others.

A special thank you goes to my dear husband Bob Dean who has been 
incredibly supportive and encouraging, not to mention patient and tolerant, 
while I have spent countless hours in pursuit of ancestors and living 
relatives.

This work must be considered a work in progress, even a draft. In many cases, 
the dates shown are just dates given to mark a child's place in the birth 
order. (If this program allows me to enter qualifications such as abt, 
bef, and aft, I've not discovered it.) Citations are included only for notes, 
although I have provided a source list. Source information is contained in my
